WHO KNEW The Smartest People In The Room - Alan Valentine and Andy Van Roon

Everybody knows Nashville is called Music City and for good reason. And while that reputation has been well earned and documented for the past century, Nashville creates more than just music. In this episode, I am pleased to present two leaders who have dedicated their careers to building important cultural infrastructure that puts Nashville on the global map.

Alan Valentine is the President and CEO of the Nashville Symphony. Since 1998, he has led the organization through an extraordinary era of artistic achievement, including 14 Grammy Awards, the construction of the Schermerhorn Symphony Center, and more than $150 million raised through capital and endowment campaigns. He has also steered the Symphony through significant crises — the 2008 recession, a devastating 2010 flood, a debt restructuring in 2013, and the full cancellation of the 2020/21 season — emerging each time with the institution's mission intact.

Andy van Roon is a Nashville-based writer, executive producer, and nonprofit founder, who has spent three decades as one of the city's most tireless advocates for the film and television industry. He has built organizations, produced hundreds of industry events, and led the statewide legislative push that secured Tennessee's first film incentives. He is the founder and driving force behind FILM-COM, an annual conference and market that brings more than 300 industry executives to Nashville to meet with local creators across feature film, television, and documentary formats.

This promises to be a very informative and entertaining discussion that will be the best hour of your week. Check it out!
